Cookie & Tracking Policy

Last updated: July 28, 2026

This page explains, in plain language, how getprotello.com ("Protello," "we," "us") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies, what is actually running on the site today, what we may turn on in the future as we grow, and the choices and rights you have under U.S. privacy law — primarily the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA). We've written this broadly and specifically on purpose, so that adding a new analytics or advertising tool later doesn't require rewriting our privacy commitments after the fact.

How you control this

Consistent with U.S. privacy law's opt-out model, non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) are on by default. You can decline them at any time — by clicking "No" in the cookie banner, using the "Deny Cookies & Trackers" link in the footer of every page, or by enabling the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we honor automatically. You can change your mind at any time using the button below, which reopens the banner.

Cookies & trackers currently active

This is the complete, accurate list of what runs on this site today — nothing hidden, nothing omitted.

NameTypePurposeDurationParty
protello_consent Strictly necessary Remembers your cookie/tracking choice so we don't ask again every visit. 365 days First-party
ab_* (e.g. ab_hero_headline) Strictly necessary / functional Keeps you seeing the same version of a page during an A/B experiment, so the layout or copy doesn't change mid-visit. 30 days First-party
Google Tag Manager (container GTM-NK88VFN5) Necessary (loading mechanism) Loads our tag configuration. The container script itself does not set advertising or analytics cookies — it only loads other tags, each gated by the consent status below. N/A Google LLC (third-party processor)
_ga, _ga_* Analytics Google Analytics (GA4) — measures traffic, page views, and on-site behavior in aggregate to help us understand how the site is used. Active by default (opt-out model); declining stops it going forward. Up to 2 years Google LLC (third-party processor)

As of the "last updated" date above, Google Analytics (GA4) is the only analytics/advertising tag configured to fire inside our Google Tag Manager container. It runs by default and stops if you decline (see "How you control this" above). The next section discloses technologies we may activate later, none of which are active today.

Technologies we may activate in the future

Our Google Tag Manager container is the single mechanism through which we would add any of the following. We're disclosing all of them now, before any are active, so our privacy practices stay transparent as our stack grows. None of these run today; if any are activated, they will follow the same default-on/opt-out model described above, and a visitor who has declined can always change that choice via "Manage Cookie Preferences" above.

TechnologyCategoryWhat it would doStatus
Google Ads conversion tracking Advertising / remarketing Measures whether ad clicks led to a purchase or signup, and may allow showing you Protello ads on other sites. Not active
Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel Advertising / remarketing Measures ad performance on Meta platforms and may enable retargeting ads to past visitors. Not active
TikTok Pixel Advertising / remarketing Same purpose as above, for TikTok ad campaigns. Not active
Microsoft Clarity / Hotjar Functional / session recording Heatmaps and anonymized session replays to help us understand and improve page usability. Not active

Your privacy rights (California & other U.S. residents)

Under the CCPA/CPRA and similar state laws, you have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@getprotello.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We honor the Global Privacy Control signal as a valid opt-out-of-sale/sharing request where legally required: if your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it the same as clicking "No" in our cookie banner for that visit.

Children's privacy

This site is a general-audience marketing site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

How long we keep this information

Cookie preference and A/B-test cookies expire automatically as noted in the table above. Any analytics or advertising data collected in the future (once/if activated) would be retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described, subject to the retention settings of the relevant provider (e.g. Google, Meta, TikTok).

Changes to this policy

If we activate any of the "future" technologies listed above, or change how we use cookies, we will update this page and the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes that expand what we track will not apply retroactively to a "No" choice you've already made — you'll continue to be opted out until you affirmatively change your preference.
